The Story of a Master Craftsman

In a quiet, sun-drenched workshop under the watchful eye of 2 Andean mountains , Patricio continues a legacy of leather-working that spans generations. Unlike mass-produced accessories, every Large Leather Satchel and Suede Floral Shoulder Bag in our collection begins as a hand-selected hide of premium leather, chosen by Patricio himself for its weight, grain, and durability.

“Working with leather is a conversation between the hands and the material. You have to respect the hide to make something that lasts a lifetime.” — Patricio

Picky, picky, picky!

Master artisan Patricio selecting premium Colombian leather for handmade bags

Patricio insists on selecting only the finest leather for each type of product – working diligently with local Ecuadorian hide suppliers as well as producers in Colombia. He examines each hide carefully in terms of thickness, color, weight, pliability and suppleness, rejecting many until he finds one that will be just right for the pieces we’ve ordered. This attention to detail is evident even in his smallest pieces, like the Colorful Small Leather Purse. When you carry one of Patricio’s bags, you aren’t just carrying a purse; you’re carrying a piece of functional art that gets better with age.

Signature Details

Every bag Patricio creates for Los Andes Shop features his signature touches:

  • Hand-Stitched Reinforcements: Critical stress points are double-stitched for longevity.
  • Solid Brass Hardware: Protective brass feet and heavy-duty buckles that won’t rust or snap. (Check out the feet on the base of this Nautical Bowler Bag!)
  • Artisan Insets: Many designs incorporate handwoven geometric patterns, blending leather-work with traditional Andean textile arts.

The Birth of a Brand: Patchy Leather Goods

For years, Patricio’s work was the hidden secret behind many high-end leather products, hidden quite literally behind a block wall in an unassuming house. We’ve been honored to encourage him to step into the spotlight and develop his own identity. The day he received his custom brand—Patchy Leather Goods—was a milestone of immense pride.

His perfectionism is no longer a secret; it’s becoming a benchmark for other leather producers in the Andes. When you see that hand-stamped logo, you are seeing more than a name—you are seeing the signature of a craftsman who refuses to compromise.

Dignity Woven In
