The Fisherman Aesthetic is the hottest trend of 2025. It’s showing up everywhere, from TikTok (at least until that’s banned!) to Town & Country Magazine.

The look includes clothing and accessories with any relation to the sea: captain’s hats, striped t-shirts, sailor pants, fish-shaped bags, and the classic chunk cable-knit fisherman’s sweater.

The Fisherman’s Sweater

Cable knit sweaters are also known as Fishermen’s Sweaters or Aran Sweaters, having originated in the Aran islands of Ireland.  They were hand knit of water-resistant wool for the fishermen to wear in chilly waters. The raised cable design is not just visually interesting, it adds additional bulk and warmth.

Fisherman’s sweaters come in a variety of styles: crewnecks, button cardigans, and zipper-fronts. Though originally handknit and made of wool, they are now available in a variety of natural and synthetic materials, and are frequently machine made.

Beyond the Fisherman Aesthetic Trend

Luca Faloni, king of Italian menswear staples, says that cable knits “transcend the ever-changing landscape of style trends and will always make people wonder whether you’re a self-made millionaire or . . . devoted to practical outfits whatever the occasion.” The cable knit design of fishermen’s sweaters never goes out of style, so you can wear them year after year.

Hand knit with 100% wool, the traditional way

Los Andes Shop zip cable knit hoodies are made of 100% wool and hand knit in Ecuador in much the same way as the original sweaters knit for those Irish fishermen. They are 100% wool, with all the warmth and water-resistance you’d expect. No need to worry about harmful chemicals in your clothing.
Our unisex cable knit sweaters are handknit by a team of 32 knitting ladies in Ecuador.  Though they are very skilled, each sweater takes about a week to knit. You can enjoy the satisfaction of knowing your sweater is produced by a human being who earns a living wage.
